48px standard controls, a 56px tier for primary actions, and generous invisible hit areas beyond every visual edge. A glove-scale preference bumps it all further.
Never a dropdown for a disposition
Status changes with safety impact render as large, color-coded, vertically ordered buttons — and rejecting a weld asks for an explicit confirm that names the consequence.
One decision per screen
Long forms decompose into step wizards when you’re standing at a weld. Big enumerated choices, a review step before commit, optional steps you can skip.
Interruption-proof
A phone call, a screen lock, an app switch — drafts persist through all of it. Half an entry at the weld never becomes zero entries at the truck.
Readable in the sun
High-contrast type, status colors that survive glare, 16px minimum inputs — which also stops the maddening zoom-on-focus on iPhones and iPads.

QR scan lives in the thumb bar. Scan a stencil label and land on that weld with its one primary action ready — find-by-walking beats find-by-typing.
Offline, honestly
Offline is a trust problem. We treat it like one.
A coordinator who can’t tell whether a field edit reached the server stops trusting the system — and goes back to paper. So every sync state in MaxTrax is visible, and no edit is ever silently lost.
Work without signal
Complete welds, record results, add field welds — everything queues locally with a visible “queued” badge on the exact records affected. Pin the day’s drawings to your device before you leave coverage.
Watch it sync
Back in coverage, the queue drains in the open — per-record states, a last-synced timestamp, and a sync panel that converts anxiety into information.
Conflicts get adjudicated, not swallowed
Two devices touched the same weld offline? You get an honest side-by-side — who, when, which facts differ — and a deliberate choice. The losing version is retained and the resolution is audited. Never last-write-wins.
Offline capture covers field workflows — completing welds, recording results, film-interval capture — by design. Configuration and heavy editing stay online, where they belong.
